- Being different is a terrible crime, obviously. We are the only ones who can be different
- You can't influence others or tell them to be different so you must die.
- How could you be different?
- In his story "Harrison Bergeron", Kurt Vonnegut makes the point that in the future no one is allowed to be different. He shows that by making all citizens in the story the same and everyone is to be equal in smarts, looks and talents. At one point in the story a person found with more intelligence than the rest and no means to repress his unfair smarts for others was arrested from a young age and forced to be the same but he questioned it severely. Near the end of the story this person became labeled as 'dangerous' by the government and he broke free of prison and his baggage that made him as plain and controlled as everybody else. He tried to help the world by trying to take over the government and becoming the 'Emperor' but since he was different and therefore being unfair to others he, and the girl who dared take what made her the same as others off, were both shot and killed.
