- The food in camps was very unpleasant, beans, bacon, and biscuits were all common meals.
- Soldiers had to do lots of physical work at camps, which made them exhausted. Many soldiers with family at home were excited to see if their family had wrote them letters.
- Did my family send anything?!
- Come get your mail everyone!
- I'm so tired from all this work...
- Battles were full of shouts from both sides, with battle cries and yelling about their hatred for the other side.
- Charge!
- Due to being very understaffed, hospital conditions in camps were horrible. Many people died of diseases, and some even had limbs amputated to save time.
- We may have to amputate the leg.
- But it's just a scratch! I need a band-aid!
- Ugh... I feel sick...
- It's so hot, can't we go inside?
- Over 50,000 men died while being imprisoned in camps. Disease was out of control, with dysentery being the most deadly. There were shortages of food, clothes, etc. Sometimes the heat was so bad they would have to dig into the ground to get a break from it.
- No! You are prisoners, and will be treated as such!
- We should be paid the same amount as the others!
- Black soldiers were treated very poorly during the war, from being targeted on the battlefield by Confederate soldiers, to not being paid as much as white soldiers. When POWs weren't white, they would most likely be killed or sold into slavery.
