2nd flashback shows younger Scrooge at his generous employer Mr Fezziwig's Christmas party where Scrooge first met his fiancé Belle.
Scrooge's obsession with business and money begins. His fiancé Belle leaves him and finds a much happier family. "Another idol has displaced me."
After the first spirit showing Scrooge Belle's new life, Scrooge puts out the spirit in remorse of his past. Now the second spirit arrives next to his bedroom (The Ghost Of Christmas Present.)
The first place the spirit takes Scrooge is the Cratchit's family. The Cratchit family symbolise those in poverty in Victorian England. Those who couldn't afford basic needs but were still grateful and enjoyed their time at Christmas as a family. Scrooge notices the Cratchit's youngest son Tiny Tim who is physically disabled and askes the spirit if he will survive. The spirit then mimics what Scrooge quoted in stave 1, "Well if they would rather die, they better go do it and decrease the surplus population!"
The spirit then takes Scrooge to his nephew Fred's house where it shows him and his family joking about Scrooge, however still shows empathy for him and toasts to his health.
"This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want." These children symbolise the poverty and the injustice of wealth distribution.
