- Gina's Story
- The reading and the presentation have had an immense impact on me. They have helped reinforce the notion that teachers and parents should never give up on their students and their children. Even when others tell you that something is not going to work teachers should always continue to try to better their students. Based off the reading and the presentation, Gina is a prime example as to why teachers and parents should always remain hopeful and positive because Gina has come so far because she had the support that she needed to become who she is now. 
- As a teacher, I would try to keep all parents as informed and comfortable as possible. So, I would ask students what language their parents are most comfortable speaking and whenever I have to hand students any important papers, for example, about after-school programs or extra support for them, I would ensure that the paper is translated into the language that the parent of the child is most comfortable with.  
- Also, I would try to keep parents as up to date on classroom activities as possible. This would help strengthen parent-teacher relationships. 
- Additionally, when I meet with parents during parent-teacher conferences I would ask each parent individually how they would like to be more involved in school. 
- And to make students, teachers, and parents more comfortable in the school setting, I would try to get the school to host more events that involve parents, teachers, and students. For example, since I will be a social studies teacher, I can try to plan a school event during the night in which students and their parents can bring in ethnic foods and we can share traditions that are unique to their countries. This gives parents a chance to become more involved in their children’s education and it is educational because students can learn about different cultures.
