  • Shobhit: Hello everyone, today we are going to talk about the major economic issues relating to the world population.
  • Mathias: Did you know at least 80% of the world’s population lives below $10 a day
  • Shobhit: You’re not wrong. I am from India and not many people earn more than that.
  • Shobhit: India like so many other countries has limited resources. India is the second most populated country in the world. Because of the population a lot of people don’t get the right healthcare and education that they need.
  • Mathias: Why is that?
  • Mathias: That is like my country although we only have 7 million people compared to 1.3 billion in India. But population growth has caused economic issues in my country too. Paraguay is still not a developed country and that is why the economic growth of my country is less.
  • Jason: Heard you guys talking about your country's population. I am from China and we are the most populated country in the world. We have our own economic problems due to population.
  • Mathias: But I thought because you have so many people, you have more work force to work in the millions of factories that are in China, thus improving the economy of the country.
  • Jason: While that is true, China has a limited amount of resources and they are depleting at an alarming rate.
  • Shobhit: And also when there are more people that means more mouths to feed, more health care and education services to provide. Population is a huge factor in the economic development of a country.
  • Mathias: So what can we do to fix it?
  • Jason: In China, they had the one child policy till 2013 which restricted families to have more than one kid. They have chilled about it tho.
  • Shobhit: One huge economic problem is that the difference between the rich and poor is way too much. This is all due to population growth. The more people there are the more competitive the world becomes. This leads to the enormous wealth gap between the rich and the poor.
