- MouthIn the book there is a phrase repeated "Faction before blood." This means Tris is putting her faction before her family. This is why she picks Dauntless instead of Abnegation because she is picking what she thinks is right for her.
- Head and HeartTris feelsnervous at the ceremony. She loves her family and Abnegation but wants todiscover who she is. She fears that if she makes the wrong choice, she will disappointpeople she loves. But she hopes to find where she belongs.
- Right LegTris is courageous. Even through tough times she believes the path she takes is right for her. This is the bravery a Dauntless member has, and this is how she grows in her journey.
- WristTris is supposed to follow the rules by picking Abnegation, but because of her divergency she picks Dauntless and must keep her identity hidden. She does so to protect the people around her and to save all factions.
- EyesTris sees all factions gathered in the auditorium for the ceremony. She watches others as they make their choice and feels pressure as her decision will change her life forever. She also notices the separation between the factions as tensions rise.
- Picture ExplanationThis image represents the Choosing Ceremony in Divergent. The auditoriumsymbolizes the day Tris chooses which faction she will be part of. This sceneis important because it signifies the beginning of challenges in her roadahead.
