Storyboard Description

droplet of water tells the journey of water in the water cycle of Earth.

Storyboard Text

  • Hi, I'm an H2O droplet. I will be guiding you through the water cycle journey I go through. Here we have the sun heating me up in the ocean. This is where the water cycle begins.
  • When the sun heats the sea water's surface, I absorb thermal energy making me warm up and start to vibrate. It turns me into water vapor or gas and floats me up to the sky. This change from a liquid to a gas is called Evaporation. It's getting hot....here I go!!
  • As I am floating up as water vapor through the troposphere in the atmosphere, it starts getting cooler. I and other H2O droplets start to lose so much thermal energy that we change from a gas to a liquid state. When millions of drops come together we form clouds like the ones above me. Now I'm a cloud not an H2O droplet anymore. This is called Condensation.
  • Hello down there. I am just getting ready to start my journey down to the ground again from this cloud, but first let me explain. In time, the drops of water like me that are in the clouds become so large and heavy that they fall down to Earth's surface and the Earth's gravity helps pull me back to Earth in different forms. I will normally fall as rain but if its colder, I will be sleet, hail or snow. This is called Precipitation. I'll see you at the bottom...here I go!
  • Wow, that was rough! I have just landed in a river and will slowly drift out to the ocean through a process called runoff. Earth's gravity affects runoff as the water tends to flow to the lowest elevation and fall into the sea. I could have also landed on the land and would have seeped through the ground and slowly but surely make my way back to the sea underground. I could have landed directly into the salty oceans too.
  • I am back at the start of my water cycle journey, in the ocean and getting ready to repeat this cycle again and again....boy I'm dizzy.
