Storyboard Text

  • Once upon a time, there was a very cheeky young ape with a very long tail.
  • He would jump high in the branches oftrees and swing with his long, striped, curly tail and alwaystease all the other animals. Still, he was a veryfunnyfellow and he was very smart, so the other animals mostly ignored his silly tricks.
  • His best friend was the cheetah, the fastest animal in the jungle.
  • After a long hunt for food, the Cheetah would sit under the ape's tree and they would talk and tell stories for hours --at least the ape would talk for hours sometimes, and the cheetah would fall fast asleep after a long hunt and a big meal as all cats like to do. The ape would get very angry since he hated it when no one was listening to him.
  • One day the ape was talking, and talking, and talking and the cheetah fell right asleep. The ape looked down and saw the Cheetah sleeping. He decided to play a trick on him. He climbed up high and picked a coconut off the tree. He needed to crack the coconut so he looked down to see exactly where the Cheetah's head was. “Bombs away," he yelled, chuckling. Crack went the coconut, right onto the Cheetah's head, and woke him up.
  • "That was not funny," said the cheetah who had a bump on his head from the hard banana. (Bananas were hard in those days.) The ape stayed in the tree, just to be safe.
  • The cheetah, a bit upset, ran into the jungle, to find himself something to eat since he got hungry when he got upset. The ape stayed safely in his tree, not wanting to be eaten for dinner.Several hours passed. The Cheetah had completely forgotten what had happened after he had a nice meal that he had caught
  • The cheetah rested by the ape's tree."Hello," said the ape who was happy to see his old friend. "Did you catch a nice supper?""Yes, very nice, thank you," replied the Cheetah. "It was a tasty little aardvark. "
  • "Now I would like to have a little nap under your big tree. It is too hot in the open field now and your tree has plenty of shade," he said, yawning."Be my guest,"said the ape, who then proceeded to talk and talk and talk, not taking any notice that the Cheetah had fallen fast asleep.
  • "Isn’t that right,Cheetah?" the ape asked if he agreed about how smart apes were. The Cheetah didn’t answer. "Isn’t that right, Cheetah?" he asked again. The cheetah still didn’t answer. The ape looked down and saw that the Cheetah was fast asleep.
  • This made the ape very angry. He took a large coconut which he had been saving for supper and dropped it right on top of the poor sleeping Cheetah's head.
  • "Ouch," the Cheetah cried, looking up.He saw the silly ape laughing and laughing, swinging his long striped tail from the branch."I’ll get you for this,” the angry Cheetah roared as he ran away.
  • Days and days went by and the ape forgot about the naughty trick he played on the poor Cheetah. He got down from his tree and began gathering some fruit and nuts for his dinner. He didn’t know that the Cheetah was waiting for him, hiding patiently in the high grass, using all his skills as a hunting cat, to get even with that ape. He waited and waited.
  • And when he saw that greedy ape with his hands all full of fruits and nuts, he jumped on his tail to bite it.
  • The ape was so startled that he leapt into the air and his tail came right off as he yelled"Chimpanzee, Chimpanzee."So that is how the chimpanzee lost his tail and got his name. And he never, never, ever ever teased his friends again.
