- Iraq wanted oil control, more land and the Persian gulf. So they invaded Kuwait , the U.S. formed a coalition to help Kuwait. They named this operation Desert Storm. It took the U.S. only 6 weeks to win. Iraq was forced to destroy their WMD's and stop producing more.
