on a dark and cold night, the white family is waiting on a visitor. Mr. White and his son are playing chess while Mrs white knits. Sergent major Morris arrives and tells the family tales from his 21 years of traveling to vast and exotic places in his venture as a soldier.

Mr white reminds Morris of a story he was telling him recently regarding a weird monkey's paw he got in india. It apparently was bewitched by an old fakir to grant three separate men three wishes. Mr white wants the paw buy morris was against it and tried to tell him it causes trouble
falling action
Morris throws the paw into the fire and mr white rescues it. Mr White makes his first wish which is for a sum of two hundred pounds. There was a loud crashing noise and the paw moved. The next day, the whites receive mord that Herbert had died at work. The company compensates the white with a check for 200$
resolution
The whites are shaken by how their wish came true and filled with grief from losing their only son. Mrs white persuades mr white to wish that Herbert was alive again. So mr white finds the paw and makes his wish. Then there was a quiet yet persistent knock at the door.
The kocking became louder and Mrs white ran to the door. But mr white held her back because he knows the evil of the paw is afraid of what kind of “state '' Herbert might be in. She ended up breaking free and ran to the door. But she can't reach the bolt. Meanwhile mr white is searching for the paw
Just as his wife gets a chair, climbs up, and slides back the bolt, mr white finds the paw and makes his final wish. The knocking stopped and Mrs white opened the door to see that nobody was outside.
