  • In the story, “Harrison Bergeron,” Kurt Vonnegut makes the point that the idea of a completely equally society is unattainable forever and will be dangerous in the long run. In the society of the story, everyone is forced to be equal. George, who is above average in intelligence, has a hearing aid that limits his mental capacity. The more beautiful an individual is, the more hideous masks and devices they have to wear. George and Hazel’s son, Harrison, is extremely tall and stands out because of this. As a result, he has to wear the largest de evinces that the government has make, but this does not limit him. He escapes the jail and tries to overthrow the government on live television. Government officials have to come in and shoot his and his Empress dead. Through the extremely exaggerated story, the author conveys to the reader that humans are made differently by God, and trying to take away our differences will only lead to a dangerous situation.
