Pony decides that he won't run away- he'll take a walk to the park to cool down and then go back home and not talk to Darry.

Dally says in the car ride back to the church that he doesn't want Johnny to turn himself in because he doesn't want Johnny to be like him. This proves that even Dally has a protective side and wants the other Greasers to be safe.

Two people tell Johnny and Pony that they took a group of kids on a field trip to have a picnic by the church and suddenly it went up into flames. A women then says that there have been children missing for about a half hour. When they start to hear screaming from the inside of the church, they realize that the children are in there!
