Zi Qiang was at a medical school in China before coming to the United States.
He left his homeland in 1990 after a crackdown on China's growing student democracy movement. He was granted political asylum in the United States
He came to San Francisco and soon found a place to call home in Chinatown. He was unable to continue his medical studies right away because of problems with having his credits transferred.

Zi also enrolled in a local community college to take classes that the U.S. medical schools said he needed to have on his transcript.
Zi was able to resume his medical education in Nebraska.
Zi was exposed to many new technologies and techniques that were not available in China
For the last 15 years he has been active in the Chinese communtiy in Nebraska. He regularly visits the local Chinese school to speak with people who were just like him when he first came to America. He even set up his own practice in Lincoln, Nebraska.
