  • Prayers at SunriseIn many Maori tribes, the first regular activity of the day was to worship the sun as it rose. The Maori people would and bow their heads and sing a song of worship.
  • Communal WorkIn the mornings, Maori would do work such as fishing, gathering shellfish and hunting Moa and other birds and seals.
  • Communal WorkAfter a meal around midday there would be more fishing, hunting animals and weaving.
  • Village CommunityMost village chiefs worked alongside their people. Some chiefs were very good at tattooing, carving or making feather cloaks. Children also worked, learning how to do these things through imitation. Older people helped with light jobs like weaving
  • Preparing for EveningTowards the end of the day, the Maori would prepare for their meal. Women and slaves would carry firewood, and the chief would help distribute fresh fish and meat among his people, making sure that everyone got
  • After EatingAfter eating, Maori tribes would gather in their marae. Usually when the sun was setting, they would worship the sun again. Hunting and fishing was not encouraged after dark, since that was when evil spirits were believed to be most active.
