- Frank riley and joe carp bully belittle and beat charlie due to the fact that charlie had a mental condition that made him slower mentally then most people which also made him unaware and made him think they where his friends.
- Person Vs Nature
- after charlies surgery he starts becoming smarter this cause his co-workers to become intimidated by hisintelligence and started a petitionto get him fired.
- Person Vs self
- at first charlie was determined and willing to do anything to have the surgery because he wanted to be smart however after the surgery unexpected side effects occur causing for his intelligence to rapidly decrease.
- Person Vs person
- prior to the surgery algernon keeps beating charlie in the maze this makes charlie very upset because it makes him feel dumb so he grows resentment towards algernon.
- After Charlie starts realizing that his intelligence is rapidly decreasing he can no longer understand stuff he wrote and is forgetting german and other idioms he desperately tries to save it he becomes horribly sad knowing that there's noting he can do to save it
- Dr. nemur and Dr. strauss start to argue over o should get the credit for Charlie's surgery Dr. nemur says that he deserves all the credit for the operation Dr. strauss says they both deserve equal credit because he also contributed a lot
