  • Odysseus remembers what Circe says: "plug your oarsmen's ears with beeswax kneaded soft; none of the rest should hear that song. But if you wish to listen, let your men tie you in the lugger hand and foot, back to the mast." If He does not do this, he and all of his crew members will crash into the rocks. PG. 932
  • As Odysseus is Tied to the mast listening these next minutes of rowing is very boring for Odysseus' men. "as we came smartly within hailing distance, the two sirens, noting our fast ship off their point, made ready, and they sang." PG. 933

  • "Get the oarshafts in your hands, and lay back hard on your benches." said Odysseus. Odysseus and his men are on the edge of death. All of his men are prepared for battle against Scylla in the distance.
  • "My men were thrown in the water, and bobbing like sea crows they were washed away on the running waves all around the black ship, and the god took away their homecoming." Odysseus and his men were very reluctant for all of them to not get eaten by Scylla.
  • "Father Zeus, and you other everlasting and blessed gods, punish the companions of Odysseus, son of Laertes; for they outrageously killed my cattle, in whom I always delighted, on my way up into the starry heaven, or when I turned back again from heaven toward earth. Unless these are made to give me just recompense for my cattle, I will go down to Hades' and give my light to dead men." Odysseus and his men had just landed at Helios' Island and the men Disobeyed and ate the cattle.
