- Mayflower compact: set president and kicked off representative government in America. when William Penn decide to attempt '' The Holy Experiment" , now known as Pennsylvania, he used representative government in his colony.
- Holy Experiment: Both the Holy Experiment and the Great Awakening were founded on religious beliefs and hopes of a better nation.
- The Great Awakening: Caused people to start thinking for themselves more and being less trusting of ''higher'' authority. They started assuming to a fuller extent their individual rights as humans. A main focus of the Enlightenment was the natural individual rights every human has.
- The Enlightenment: It brought out many ideas and philosophies about natural God-given rights every human is entitled to. The Declaration of Independence borrows a lot of these ideas and uses them as justification for independence.
- The Declaration of Independence: After the states declared their freedom, they needed a way to govern that represented the ideals written in the Declaration of Independence for this reason they came up with the Articles of Confederation
