Storyboard Text
- (Exposition) It's the day of the Reaping in District 12 and Katniss meets Gale in the woods for their annual celebratory "feast".
- We could do it, you know? Run away. We could make it.
- I have Prim and my mother to take care of.
- Later at the Reaping...
- (Exposition) Effie Trinket pulls out Prim's name out of the vase first, but Katniss volunteers to to take her place. Peeta Mellark is chosen as the male tribute.
- Katniss!
- I volunteer as tribute!
- (Rising Action) The District 12 tributes arrive at the Capitol and are baffled by the wealth around them.
- GASP!
- (Rising Action) As Katniss shows her skills to the Gamemakers, she gets frustrated with their lack of attention and shoots an arrow through the apple in the roasted pig's mouth.
- Ill tell you what Peeta, you win this thing and that girl you love will have to go out with you.
- Thanks, but I don't think that'll help my case because she came here with me.
- (Central Problem) The 74th annual Hunger Games begin as all 24 tributes enter the arena and begin to fight to the death until only one victor remains.
- Rue has just been killed and in honor of her, Katniss surrounds her in flowers so that all of Panem can see.
- "New Rule! Two tributes from the same district can win. May the odds be ever in your favor."
- (Climax) Katniss finds Peeta after hearing the announcement and nurses him back to health while Haymitch presses for more intimacy in return for sponsor gifts
- Haymitch: Good job sweetheart. Keep it up!
- We have to get you better Peeta, I don't want to lose you.
- I love you, Katniss.
- "Plot Twist! That new rule we mentioned earlier has been changed back to the original. Only one victor is allowed."
- (Falling Action) Katniss suggests taking the deadly nightlock berries and kill themselves so they'd have to let both victors live.
- Wait! Don't kill yourselves! Ladies and gentlemen, we give you your victors!
- Let's die by our rules, not the Capitol's
- You were only pretending during the games, in that cave?
- (Resolution) The Capitol is angry at Katniss for rebelling against the rules and making the Gamemakers look like fools. Meanwhile, Peeta finds out that Katniss was pretending to be in love with him for the cameras.
