Storyboard Text

  • Rhea Silvia was daughter of Numitor, King of Alba Longa (Present Day Italy). Amulius overthrew Numitor, his brother, and killed all of Numitor's male heirs. He then made Rhea Silvia a Vestal Virgin, a priestess of the goddess Vesta, so she could not give birth to any heirs who could claim the thrown.
  • However, Rhea gave birth to Romulus (blue swaddle cloth) and Remus (red swaddle cloth), twins, with Mars, the god of war. Amulius, the new king, found out about the babies' existence and ordered a servant to find and throw them in the Tiber River to drown.
  • Miracles helped the twins to survive. They landed under a fig tree where a She-Wolf found them and suckled them. When they were older, a shepherd and his wife found and raised them as their sons (Romulus, blue trim, and Remus, red trim).
  • Remus (red trim) was imprisoned after involving in a brawl, but was later freed by his brother Romulus (blue trim). The twins then discovered their royal blood line and were given the right to found their own cities. Remus founded a city on Aventine Hill and Romulus built his city on Palatine Hill. Romulus built a wall around his city which Remus climbed before he was killed.
  • Romulus accepted all kinds of people into his city, causing his city to be filled with bandits, robbers, murderers etc. As his city was mostly populated by men, he invited his neighbours to a feast and stole their women.
  • The Sabines (blue tassels) began a war with Romulus (blue hem) but were stopped by the Sabine women. Romulus built the city of Rome during his reign and is regarded as the founder of Rome.
