  • Hi Rian!

  • oh wow really? i can help you
  • okay!

  • According to this page, the lungs and windpipe were important symbols in ancient Egypt.
  • oh wow!
  • .
  • Chest movement during breathing is not caused by air movement?
  • .
  • I had no idea that respiratory systems had such interesting trivia.
  • Yes, it's hilarious to see how we respond to information regarding the respiratory system.
  • In order to provide oxygen to the body's tissues and cells, the lungs and windpipe in humans and other animals must cooperate. As a sign of the oneness between upper and lower Egypt that was required for the country to be strong and healthy, the ancient Egyptians produced a hieroglyph that shows the lungs joined to the windpipe. They did this because they knew the need of this cohesion for survival.
  • We experience chest expansion with inhalation and contraction upon exhalation. The diaphragm, a thin sheet of dome-shaped muscle that separates the chest and abdominal chambers, contracts and slides downward during inhalation, expanding the space in the chest cavity, rather than air entering or leaving the lungs, which would otherwise cause similar chest movements. The rib cage is pulled outward and upward at the same time that the muscles in between the ribs tighten. The complete opposite occurs with exhale.
