Princess Katarina

- Princess Katarina by Lieu Ann Ross
- Once upon a time, there lived a princess named Katarina in the kingdom of Swanilla. Swannilla was a peaceful kingdom. Princess Katarina was the daughter of King Richard and Queen Victoria. Princess Katarina had two best friends- her dog Sadie and Prince Edwin.
- Prince Edwin was from the neighboring kingdom of Melanthia. Princess Katarina and Prince Edwin had been best friends since they were young children. They were almost complete opposites though. Princess Katarina was always trying to learn as much as she could. Prince Edwin was more interested in art and painting. He was always skipping his combat training classes, so Princess Katarina started going in his place. She had become very good with a sword.
- The annual Festival of Favor was fast approaching. Princess Katarina was trying to decide which event she wanted to participate in. Prince Edwin was only worried about what he was going to wear.
- As the festival grew closer, there was a ominous feeling that kept nagging at Princess Katarina. She felt like something bad was going to happen and spoil the festival. She did not know it, but she was correct.
- Not to far away was a evil wizard name Tamaron. He had an evil dragon called Seborg that did his bidding. Tamaron had decided that he was tired of the happiness in the surrounding kingdoms. He decided the Festival of Favor was a perfect time to bring the happiness to an end.
- As the Festival of Favor approached, Princess Katarina's excitement grew. She had decided that she was going to compete in the hand to hand combat challenge and the sword fighting competition. She knew she had a good chance, but she was concerned that some of the competitors might have a problem with her being a woman. Sadie, on the other hand, was no where near as excited as Katarina was.
- Princess Katarina was so excited to tell her parents what she had decided to compete in. Her mother and father were excited too. They knew their daughter could do anything she set her mind to.
- Tamaron had finalized his plan. He knew exactly how he was going to end the happiness in the kingdom and take control of the lands for himself.
- The Festival of Favor was finally here. Knights from all across the lands had come to compete. Jesters and spectators had come to watch and celebrate in the feasts and celebrations.
- Katarina and Edwin met at the entrance of the festival. Katarina was excited and nervous about the celebration. Edwin was more excited about his new robe.
- Out of nowhere the dragon Seborg swooped in and kidnapped Prince Edwin right before the festival began. Katarina was shocked!
- Tamaron appeared out of a cloud of smoke. He declared that he had Prince Edwin and would kill him if all the kingdom's did not surrender to his rule. He knew Prince Edwin's parent's controlled the largest army and would do anything to save their only child.
- Princess Katarina grew angry. She told Tamaron he would not get away with this. She said someone would stop him and destroy his evil dragon.
- As soon as Tamaron disappeared, Princess Katrina started trying to gather a group to help rescue Edwin. All the "brave" knights were too scared of the dragon. No one would help her. She was so angry. She declared that Prince Edwin was her best friend and that she would save him by herself!
- Tamaron had Seborg take Prince Edwin back to his castle into the feiry dungeon. Prince Edwin was terrified. He did not know what was going to happen to him. He knew his parents would do anything to save him, but he also knew they didn't need to give into Tamaron's demands. He also knew no one was going to battle a powerful wizard and an evil dragon.
- Princess Katarina reached Tamaron's castle just as night fell. Sadie had raced behind her. She refused to be left behind. Apparently Sadie was braver than all the knights in the kingdom.
- Princess Katarina rushed in and surprised Tamaron. He did not think anyone would dare come after him or Seborg, especially a girl. Katarina declared she was there to save Prince Edwin. Tamaron commanded Seborg to kill Katrina and her little dog too.
- Seborg charged at Princess Katarina and Sadie. He was going to kill them both. Katrina was determined to save Prince Edwin, Sadie, and herself. She was going to leave that mountain alive. She drew her sword and starting fighting with Seborg. He would swoop down and try to attack her from every direction. She was knocked down more than once, but she finally was able to get the best of Seborg and defeat him.
- Tamaron was definitely not as confident after Katarina defeated Seborg. It did not take long for him to run away scared. She was able to rescue Edwin and keep Sadie and herself safe.
- Everyone in the kingdom was proud of Princess Katarina and her bravery. She swears she could not have done it without Sadie. Prince Edwin would forever be grateful to his best friend for saving his life. The evil Tamaron was never heard from again.
