The antagonist in the story is the narrator. He begins the story by telling his audience that he is not crazy, and will prove his sanity by calmly telling us how wise and cunning he was in planning and carrying out the murder of a old man. He tells the listener that his motive for murder is the old mans "vulture eye".
Climax
The narrator was never wronged by the old man. The eye was the reason he wanted to kill the old man. For a whole week the narrator would be nice to the old man. For seven nights the narrator peeked into the old mans room. The narrator would shine a light into the room to see if the eye was opened.
Falling action
The narrator giggles at his geniuses perhaps he giggled a little too loud. The old man was awaken in the night by his laughter. The old man got up in bed and said who goes there. They looked at each other for a hour.
