"When we were on death's door. When we were needy. We made a promise. We signed a treaty. We needed money guns and half a chance"
Jefferson view: Jefferson views this situation as France helped the United States win the war, they should at least in return help France out in time of their need. France helped provide weapons and money to the United States from the revolution. He points out that we should help them because they helped us.
"The only person you have to convince is me. Sincerely Jefferson you have the floor."
"Thank you, Sincerely Jefferson, Secretary Hamilton, your response"
Hamilton view: Hamilton's view on supporting France in the war was that we are too weak to start another war, after we had just finished the American revolution. He even says even though we signed a treaty with France saying we will help them when they go to war, it wouldn’t be necessary because the King is dead, meaning that it didn’t exist.
"Of meddling in the middle of military mess, a game of chess where France is queen and king less. We signed a treaty whose head is now in a basket.
Jefferson thinks that the United States needs to stand and help the French even though they have just gotten off at their own war. Jefferson wants to support them because they made it possible for them to win. Unfortunately President Washington does not side with Jefferson because there are no leaders to lead french, and we are too fragile to join another one.
"Have you an ounce of regret"
"We're to fragile to start another fight"
