- No detailed costs or negotiation rights?
- You're not going to tell me my options to dispute costs?
- Client - "As you can see, this is racial discrimination" Attorney - "Yes, based on the Anti-discrimination Act I agree" Client - "Alright, so let me have it. How much is this fight going to cost me?" Attorney - "My charges are $500/hr".
- Well, I am desperate... Let's get the ball rolling.
- Client - "$500/hr. What are you going to do for me for that rate? Whats my total costs going to be? Is this negotiable?" Attorney - Hard to say. Somewhere between $20,000 and $150,000 Client - "That sure is a broad range of costs!" Attorney - "Do you want me to represent you or not? You won't find better representation anywhere else".
- One year later...
- Client - "So what, I just wait until we are through to get the bill? Attorney - "That's right, no need to worry about it now". Client - "What happens if I get the bill and I feel that it's too high? Will I have the option to challenge it?" Attorney - "No, but you're a doctor. You can afford it"
- Legal Representation is such a rip off...
- Client - "Oh my gosh, these unknowns certainly scare me. I sure am desperate though" Attorney - "Do you want to get these guys or not?" Client - "Yes, lets get this thing started!"
- Attorney - "Here's your bill" Client - "$300,000! We didn't even win and that's well above the estimate you provided me." Attorney - "Well that's just the way it is" Client - "Can't I at least challenge these costs?" Attorney - "No, you have no rights"
- Client - "I am never using an attorney again!"
