Bodh Raj was a vindictive and callous boy, and was the oddest in his school. He was cruel to birds and animals and humans too.
When the narrator's father got a promotion and moved into a bungalow at the outskirts of the city, the narrator felt lonely as no-one visited him. But Bodh Raj found it as a good hunting ground for him.

The narrator's mother suggested that since Bodh Raj was good at breaking nests, he could clean up their store room which the birds have made filthy.
So the narrator ends up befriending him even though he thought that Bodh Raj would destroy the birds nest, break the eggs, pull out their feathers and even kill them.
When Bodh Raj reached the godown, he was trying to hit the nest but when he saw a kite attacking the chicks, his heart changed and he decided to protect the chicks from the kite.
After this incident, he had changed completely. Next day, he had neither a catapult nor pebbles, instead he carried a bag of seeds for the Mynah chicks.
