In January 1776, New Hampshire made a constitution to organize as a state. Few years later, all the other colonies also made constitutions.

In 1787, congress passed an act establishing rules on how parts of the Northwest Territory could eventually become a U.S. State.

In 1785, Thomas Jefferson made an ordinance to sell the land west of the Appalachians, east of the Mississippi, and north of the Ohio River.

On January 25, 1787, Daniel Shays and 1,500 men attacked the armory in Springfield in protest of the state government of Massachusetts not doing enough to help those who owed money.
However, there were many flaws in the articles. For example, there was no power to collect taxes so, there was no money for the navy, army, or debts.
After winning independence in 1781, the Continental Congress made The Articles of Confederation saying that each colony would be an individual state with their own laws.
Congress: These articles will solve everything!

After many fails, congress decided it was time to make a stronger government. a government where there is central leadership, a national court system, power to collect taxes and more. This is the successful government that we live in today.
