- In January 1776, New Hampshire made a constitution to organize as a state. Few years later, all the other colonies also made constitutions.
- New Hampshire: We made a constitution!

- In 1787, congress passed an act establishing rules on how parts of the Northwest Territory could eventually become a U.S. State.
- Future Ohio: We want to be a sate!!
- Congress: Well... you need 60,000 people first!

- In 1785, Thomas Jefferson made an ordinance to sell the land west of the Appalachians, east of the Mississippi, and north of the Ohio River.

- On January 25, 1787, Daniel Shays and 1,500 men attacked the armory in Springfield in protest of the state government of Massachusetts not doing enough to help those who owed money.
- Shay: CHARGE!
- Armory: AAAAHHH!!!
- SHAYS'S REBELLION
- However, there were many flaws in the articles. For example, there was no power to collect taxes so, there was no money for the navy, army, or debts.
- After winning independence in 1781, the Continental Congress made The Articles of Confederation saying that each colony would be an individual state with their own laws.

- After many fails, congress decided it was time to make a stronger government. a government where there is central leadership, a national court system, power to collect taxes and more. This is the successful government that we live in today.
