  • Define the Problem
  • Hey, you did not do too well on your science test today. Ill give you a letter for your parents to sign, and then you can retake the test, ok?
  • Oh, ok.
  • My parents will be so mad at me for failing. Should I get them to sign it and tell the truth, or I could always forge their signature...
  • I am disappointed that I failed the test. I would like to retake it. However, I do not want my parents to know that I failed. So the question in, should I let them sign the letter or forge their signature?
  • Examine the Options
  • Consider the Outcome
  • Well, if I let them sign the paper, then I will be happy I told the truth. Also, I'm sure my parents would be prouder of me if I told the truth. However, they would be disappointed in me that I failed. I hate it when they are disappointed in me, so I could easily avoid that by forging their signature.
  • Lindsay failed her test today. The teacher is willing to let her retake it, but only if her parents sign a letter. Should she show it to her parents and let them sign it, or be dishonest and forge their signature?

  • We're a little disappointed that you failed, but glad you told us. Of course we will sign it.
  • I'm really sorry, but I failed my test. Do you think you could sign this paper so I can retake it?
  • Once she gets home, Lindsay thinks about what the outcome of each of her choices would be.
  • Evaluate the Decision
  • I am proud that I made that decision. I am glad I was honest with my parents, and now I can retake the test.
  • What it came down to was considering her values. Lindsay believes in honesty, so she knows her decision.
  • Ok!
  • Dinner sweetie!
