- after ww1 the treaty of Versailles was signed in the hall of mirrors between the victorious allies and defeated Germany. Germany territories, there were strict limits on Germany's army, navy, air force, and Germany had to accept responsibility for ww1.

- the great depression was a world wide crisis caused by the wall street crash in 1929 which lead to unemployment, homelessness, decrease in construction and manufacturing, 6 million unemployed people. foreign loans withdrawn. Nazi party gained attention

- Hitler didn't have a lot of support from the people of Germany. The treaty of Versailles and great depression had caused struggles for Weimar republic. Hitler lost working class support, so Hitler got made president by Hindenburg. Hindenburg died shortly after.
- the Nazis created youth groups to get children to obey Hitler. Nazis controlled what was taught in schools to train future solders. indoctrinated the children into Nazi ideology. Trained soldiers at a young age
- there was mass rallies, radio, cinema, newspapers, paintings and scriptures were used to control and spread Nazi messages. these were director by one of Hitlers most trusted associates, Josef Goebbels.
