  • Hi boys and girls. As you see in these 3 boxes it’s the front cover of the book called “The Snowy Day” written & illustrated by Ezra Jack Keats. How many of you can relate to the boy in this scene? Just like you, I was able to connect with the little boy in the picture. We can imagine playing in the snow, we can recognize the color of the snow, the snow hitting our face, the coldness of it and hearing the snow crunch when we walk. Are there anyother ways you are able to relate to the cover?
  • When you look at this cover how does the book make you feel? Perhaps by looking at the cover it makes you excited to play in the snow, build a snowman, make snowballs, or go sledding. I think it brings some sort of happiness because he probably has no school and can play in the snow all day.
  • Senses is the one word I would use to describe the story. After reading the story you can imagine or remember what it’s like to 1. touch the snow, 2. taste the snow, 3. see the snow 4. hear the snow crunch under your feet 5. smell the snow. Some would say before it snows the air has a smell to it like it’s about to snow.
