In a mountain village in the Philippines, there was a married couple named Awiyao and Lumnay, who had been married for seven years.
I'm Awiyao!
I'm Lumnay!
Awiyao, the husband, left his wife, Lumnay because she couldn’t give him a child. He decided to marry another woman named Madulimay with whom he hopes to have children.
Lumnay is upset and hurt because she really loves Awiyao and doesn’t want a separation. However, Lumnay still accepts the separation in order for Awiyao to find his happiness with the woman who can bear him a child that will carry his name.
Why does he need to leave me? Why? Am I not good enough?
On the night of Awiyao and Madulimay’s wedding, Awiyao went to Lumnay to invite her in his wedding and had a talk about their separation. On their conversation, they found out that they still love each other but they have to separate due to their tribe’s custom. They also agreed that if Awiyao’s second marriage did not work, he will return to Lumnay.
I do still love you.
Then, why did you leave me?
Awiyao left Lumnay to rejoin the wedding. Lumnay was in fact at his wedding but left. She went to the mountain where she reminisced their story of Awiyao and diverted her attention to all the heartache, burden, grief, and bitterness that she felt that night.
After 2 years, Awiyao still doesn’t have a child because Madulimay has the same situation as Lumnay – she couldn’t give what Awiyao truly wants. Awiyao left Madulimay and decided to come back with Lumnay. But Lumnay already belongs to someone else. She is living a happy and good life with her new husband. Awiyao is full of regrets and disappointments to himself as he realized that only Lumnay can give him true love and genuine happiness.
