In chapter one it’s starts with telling us that Old Major, the wise and highly regarded Middle White boar, gathered all the animals on the farm to discuss his dream. His speech includes a lot of convincing points that reminded the animals that their lives were miserable and not fair and that they need to rebel and fight against their dictator and abuser Mr.Jones in order to be free and finally have liberty over their own lives.
Beasts of England, beasts of Ireland, Beasts of every land and clime,…
Comrades,……
He teaches the animals the song which resulted in them singing it for themselves. The whole farm burst out into the tune. The uproar woke Mr.Jones up and caused him seize the gun in his bedroom and fire 6 shots into the darkness, the animals settled down after the frightful interruption and went to sleep.
The speech ends with Old Major telling them about an old song from when he was young named the
Beasts of England.
THE SEVEN COMMANDMENTS1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.
Mr.Jones had gotten worse in this time, neglecting them, not feeding them, instead staying at home drunk. So one evening the animals finally had enough. The unfed and neglected animals attacked. They flung themselves upon their tormentors, shocking them as they had never seen the animals behave this way, it frightened them immensely. They soon gave up and Mrs.Jones took their belongings and ran. The animals were left in a state of shock and awe. Then capered in joy when they realized that they were free. After they got rid of all the things that reminded them of Mr.Jones, they gathered the next day and made a list of 7 commandments to keep the peace.
The organizing and teaching fell upon the pigs, who were considered the cleverest of the animals. The two young boars that truly took charge were, Napoleon, a rather fierce looking Berkshire boar who had a reputation for getting his own way, and Snowball, a more vivacious pig than Napoleon, inventive, quick in speech, and not considered to have the same depth of character.
Chapter 2 starts with the revealing of Old Major’s death, and in the three months following there was a lot of secret activity due to Old Major’s speech that gave the more intelligent animals a completely new outlook on life, they we’re preparing for the rebellion.
There were obstacles but they overcome them with the help of the pigs. The pigs however did not do any physical labour instead they supervised the other animals. On Sundays there was no work as the animals held a weekly ceremony that consisted of many events.
It was later discovered that the mystery of the missing milk and apples were actually used in the pigs mash. The animals felt betrayed and confused as to why they would do that in the first place. The pigs used their manipulative techniques to convince the animals that it was for their own good as the pigs need it more for their brain power. The animals agreed and the discussion ended there.
Chapter 3 starts with telling us that the harvest the animals put their efforts into was a success. All the animals had a role that would benefit the farm in some way like the hens and ducks used their sharp eyes to make sure there was no wastage. The work of the farm went like clockwork.
