  • The Middle ages in Europe reached high point in the 1200s, but in the 1300s a terrible plague, known as The Black Death swept across Europe and Asia.
  • *A plague is a rapidly spreading disease that kills many people
  • The Black Death was a bubonic plague, which was a bacteria carried by fleas. These fleas infested black rats and in the middle ages the rats were everywhere.
  • By the early 1300s there were more goods being shipped across central Asia. This caused the Black Death to spread rapidly due to all the infestd rats carrying it from city to city.
  • The death of so many people during this time changed Europes economy. Trade declined, and wages rose sharply because workers were few and in demand. The decreasing amount of people less demand for food eventually food price decreased.
  • Approximately 19-38 million Europeans died of the plague between 1347 and 1351. Some people thought the plague was a punishment from god and others blamed Jews, for that reason Germans expelled Jews from many cities.
