- A warden appeared in the cell to confront Yakov, he thought Bok was conspiring to escape the prison. The warden revealed that he knew about his conversation with a stranger (Shmuel), and they punished Zhitnyak because he allowed the visit. Yakov denied knowing the identity of the stranger.
- Yakov had a nightmare where Shmuel was the victim, he found Shmuel dead and woke up sobbing because of it. yakov realised that he cannot die yet, if he dies, people who he cares about will suffer even more.
- One day Raisl visits Yakov in prison. She spent more than a year trying to visit him, the authorities allowed it only if she gave Yakov a confession stipulating that he had commited the crime. Then, Raisl confesses that she gave birth and wants Yakov to be the father.
