After Montag came from the river, he follows the railroad tracks, and he meets Granger and the other men.
"The chase is continues north in the city--
"My name's Granger. We've watched the chase. The chase is still running the other way though."
Montag is confused why the chase is going the other way...
"They're faking it. They can't admit it. They know they can only hold their audience so long."
Fred Clement
"We're book burners too. Always the chance of discovery."
Professor West
"You are now the Book of Ecclesiastes. All of us have photographic memories; we've got the method down to where we can recall anything that's been read once."
"I have the Book of Ecclesiastes."
Dr. Simmons
Granger would then tell Montag about the network of "libraries" that's all over the country.
Reverend Padover
Granger tells Montag stories about his grandfather. They watched as the bomb was dropped in the city, destroying everything. Montag pictures Faber on his way to see his retired printer friend. He pictures Mildred and how she will face death. He remembers where he and Mildred first met at Chicago. Granger compares humanity to a Phoenix, where humanity will rise again from the ashes. They soon plan to go to the city to pick up any survivors.
Now, for the first time in his life, Montag has leisure to think for himself for the first time.
