  • The setting for the whole poem is a kingdom by the sea, the setting is an important part of this poem. The kingdom by the sea is repeated many times throughout the poem to show its importance.
  • Symbolism
  • The theme of Anabelle Lee is love. The speaker is deeply in love with Anabelle which you can tell from him repeatedly calling her beautiful and emphasizing how big their love is.
  • Imagery
  • The speaker is is in love with Anabelle Lee and after she dies he is deeply in grief and blames the angels for taking her from him. He is obsessed with Anabelle and refuses to let go.
  • Repetition
  • Anabelle Lee
  • The wind from a cloud chilling Anabelle Lee is symbolism for her getting sick. Later in the poem the cloud kills her. She dies in the fourth stanza where it says that the angels where jealous of their love so they sent the cloud to kill Annabelle.
  • There isn't a lot of imagery but one image that you can imagine is the sea since it is repeated over and over that the kingdom, where the poem is set, is by the sea. The last stanza has the most imagery, stars and night is mentioned which makes you see a starry sky in your head.
  • The setting (the kingdom by the sea) is repeated 5 times in the poem. Annabelle Lee's name is repeated many times because she is the main topic of the poem.
