- We are introduced to Maya's family who immigrated from Kazakhstan to the U.S because of economic reasons.
- Climax
- Maya thinks that their parents will not let her go to the school dance because they are very strict and don't understand U.S customs yet.
- Falling Action
- Maya is told by the school principal that his brother Nurzhan got in a fight at school with a kid who was making fun of his accent and needs to call her parents for a meeting. Maya does not blame Nurzhan of what he did so he decided to lie to his parents while translating what the principal was telling them.
- Resolution
- Nurzhan finds Maya's permission for the school dance and tries to persuade their parents to let her go. They let Maya go, but with the condition that Nurzhan chaperones Maya.
- Maya goes to the dance and hangs out with friends, dances with her crush and lives the best night of her life.
- Maya thanks Nurzhan and lays in her bed thinking about the night she had and wished Nurzhan could chaperone her in another event.
