Storyboard Text

  • Alzheimer's is an irreversible brain disorder that slowly deteriorates thinking skills, common sense, memory, and the ability to carry out simple tasks (mainly occurs with older adults) .
  • To further understand the man's condition, he had an MRI done. The doctors then Dx (diagnosed) him with a type of dementia called, Alzheimer's (AD).
  • Epidemiology and molecular genetic studies have shown the appearances of several genes correlated with increased risk of AD. While aging the principle factor for AD, hypertension (abnormally high BP), dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome and diabetes also tend to lead one towards AD
  • When his grandson found out, he was devastated. However he wasn't entirely sure what Alzheimer's disease (AD) was...
  • Additionally the doctor states that the pathology shows that the degree of cognitive impairment in diseases such as AD is significantly correlated with the presence of neurofibrillary tangles.
  • She then explains even more...
  • The doctors then started examining his MHx and FHx to help see any relation between ancestors and to know the probability of his relatives having this disorder too.
  • They then determined that in order to prevent AD they would have to engage in a diet with vegetables, fruit and low fat products, regular exercise, social activity and intellectual activity can result in the prevention of AD.
