- Haiti is located on a transform plate boundary. It lays right on the boundary of the Caribbean and North American plates
- This means that the earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12, 2010, just before 5pm, was very bad and killed more than 300,000 and injured more than 300,000. It was a magnitude 7 earthquake, but because of Haiti's location, was way worse.
- The losses and damage of the buildings estimated at around 7.8 billion dollars, with 13 of the 15 ministry officers were destroyed leaving Haiti's government in shambles.
