  • Oh, say can you see......
  • "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."
  • I support him 100%. He's using his platform to stand up for the oppressed and fight aganist racial injustice in America. There is nothing more American than what he's doing right now.
  • On Aug. 26, 2016, the quarterback of San Francisco 49ers, Colin Kaepernick, refused to stand up during the anthem to protest racial injustice and police brutality in the United States.
  • What do you guys think about Colin kneeling?
  • What are you talking about? He's disrespecting the flag and our country. We stand up to show respect for those who serve our country. He's a disgrace to America.
  • Colin defend his action when asked by reporter in regards to the protest.
  • I'm with Kap
  • I'm boycotting the NFL
  • B000!
  • yay!! LET'S GO!!
  • Since the protest, many NFL players, other professional athletes, college athletes, and even high school athletes have refused to stand during the anthem to support Colin.
  • What are these players doing by kneeling during the anthem???
  • These protests have sparked a public conversation about the protesters' messages and how they've chosen to deliver them.
  • These NFL players should not be allowed to disrespect the flag. Where is their patriotism??
  • Moreover, many NFL fans take side on the issues regarding the protests. Many are angry by the protest and decided to boycott the NFL. Other support the protest and believe that the players have the right to kneel.
  • "If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL, or other leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect our Great American Flag (or Country), and should stand for the National Anthem. If not, YOUR'RE FIRED. Find something else to do!"
  • @realDonaldTrump
  • The protest is so controversial that it catches attention of the president in the white house.
  • "Would i arrest him? No. I think it's dumb and disrespectful. I would have the same answer if you asked me about flag burning."
  • What is your opinion on the kneeling of the national anthem?
  • The protest influencec Trump to weigh in on the matter.
  • Trump continues to be very vocal about the the protests as players continues to kneel. He tweeted 17 times about sport on September of 2017.
  • "The issue of kneeling has nothing to do with race. It is about respect for our Country, Flag, and National Anthem. NFL must respect this!" #standforanthem
  • One of the justice, Ginsburg, has a very strong opinion about the protest also.
  • I want (the protester) to listen to the pain that may cause somebody who, for example had a spouse or child who was killed in a combat and why it hurts them to see somebody not standing. But i also want people to think about the pain he may be expressing about somebody who's lost a loved one that they think was unfairly shot,"
  • Obama said that the protest were tough to see "for our men and women in the uniform and those who fought for us...but i don't doubt his sincerity. I think he cares about some real, legitimate issues that have to be talked about."
  • Give players the option to stay in the lock room to protest the anthem. Else, everyone needs to stand when they are on the field.
  • "What the NFL did today was thwart the players' constitutional rights to express themselves and use our platform to draw attention to social injustices like racial inequality in our country. Everyone loses when voice get stifled." (Malcolm Jenkins, Eagles safety)
  • Former president Obama is also affected by this protest. When asked about the anthem protest, Obama calls for both side to understand each other.
  • Will I ever get to play again??
  • As the anthem protest becomes very controversial, the NFL decided to establish a policy on May 23, 2018.
  • Less than two months after the policy was established, NFL freezes its anthem policy as it received many criticism and causes anger among many players around the league.
  • After researching about this topic, I can conclude that there are two sides to this protest. People are either in support of the protest or against it. Those who are against the anthem protest believe that it is disrespectful to the flag and the people who serve to protect our freedom. However, those who support it sees it as a fight against racial injustice in America. Personally, I see the protest as a form of freedom of expression. These players are expressing their right and creating conversations about issues that affects many people in Americans. I understand that the protest may not look respectful during the anthem, but the intention is never about disrespecting the flag. The purpose of the protest is to shine lights on racial injustice facing the country. This protest bring us together by getting us talking about racial injustice in America. It forces us to look into things that we may not be comfortable talking about and find ways to resolve the issue. After all, it was US Army veteran, Nate Boyer, who suggested to Kaepernick to take a knee as a sign of respect instead of sitting on the bench.
  • The original intention of the protest diminishes over time. People are more concern about the meaning of the anthem and the flag. Colin's decision to kneel during the anthem caused him his job in the NFL. He remains unsigned after his contract ended with 49ers.
  • Although NFL do not have any policy restricting players from protesting the anthem, there have not been any kneeling so far this season. The players are afraid of losing their Job like Colin did. However, many players still support him by wearing his t-shirt in pre-game.
