Bianca's Childhood Story
Storyboard Text
- Today is Bianca’s last day of school and her last day of Elementary school before summer break 1982 and all Bianca can think about is going to summer camp and her family beach vacation.
- Animation: Bianca sitting in class the last day of school day dreaming about camp and the beach. Students and teacher waving goodbye as the students exit the classroom. Sounds effects: School bell rings. Scuffing of kids walking.
- Bianca is at the park watching her older brother play tennis with his friend as she begins to pace back and forth because she is bored and thinks tennis is boring to watch.
- SCENE 1
- While Bianca is daydreaming at school, Bianca's mother, who is a school teacher herself, is not so excited about the last day of class as she will return in 2 weeks to teach summer school because this will be the 1st summer without 2 incomes as Bianca parents are divorced.
- Animation: Mother inside a classroom packing up books and preparing to leave class but is thinking about how she must come back in a couple of weeks and teach summer school. Her face will frown in sadness.
- Bianca’s realizes she is stuck with her brother and her competitiveness gets the best of her as she picks up one of her brother’s tennis racket and starts hitting the tennis ball against the wall.
- SCENE 2
- Bianca rushes home from school excited to see her brothers and talk about their plans for the summer.
- Animation: Bianca playing with dog and hand motions to her brothers to indicate they are talking. Bianca and her brothers go inside the home.
- Bianca’s natural talent is quickly noticed by her brother and his friend as they began to watch her play by herself against a wall.
- SCENE 3
- Bianca’s mother walks in and starts explaining to the children that she will be working this summer and Bianca will only go to camp ½ a day and stay with her older brother while he is at tennis practice the remaining of the day until she gets home. This saddens Bianca as this is not how she imagined her summer break.
- Animation: Bianca and her brothers sitting at home. Bianca’s mother hands motion in explanation. Bianca makes hand gestures to indicate she is not happy with the routine and head falls is disappointment while her older brother looks a bit irritated.
- Bianca joins the tennis team with her brother and begin training to play tennis with other kids and Bianca is introduced to a girl name Julie who becomes her practice partner and they become best friends.

- SCENE 5
- Bianca sits in her bedroom sad when the phone rings and it is her father. Bianca "Hi Dad, Are you coming to get me for the summer?" Bianca's father replies " Yes, I will see you in a couple of weeks." Bianca cheers up.
- Animation: Bianca picks up phone and starts to smile. Sound effects: Phone ringing, little girl laughing, and phone hang up sound.
- Bianca excelled quickly in tennis and begins practicing to play her first competitive tournament.
- Yes, I will see you in a couple of weeks.
- Hi! Dad. Are you coming to get me for the summer?
- SCENE 6
- Animation: Bianca sitting on a bench at the tennis court (bored) watching her brother play tennis. She gets up and paces back and forth. Sound effects: tennis ball hitting tennis rackets.
- Bianca plays in her first tennis tournament which she loses the first match but everyone applauds her because she has the talent and strength but needs to learn strategy to compete and win.
- SCENE 7
- Animation: Bianca sitting on a bench at the tennis court (bored) watching her brother play tennis. She gets up and paces back and forth. Sound effects: tennis ball hitting tennis rackets.
- Bianca starts training on leg strengthening in the gym and practicing harder to prepare for tournaments.
- SCENE 8
- Animation: Bianca’s brother and his friends are watching Bianca play tennis and makes hand gestures in disbelief. Sound effects: Tennis ball hitting tennis racket.
- Bianca’s father observes her talent in tennis during his visits and encouraged her to continue playing the sport in which he became her biggest supporter.
- SCENE 9
- Animation: Hand gestures while Bianca is introduced to coach and other tennis players. Kids playing tennis. Julie motioning different tennis techniques. Sound effects: Tennis balls hitting rackets and kids making noise.
- Bianca’s coach registered her play mix-doubles with a kid name Ashok in which they will travel to Washington, DC, Philadelphia, and New York if they win in the first 2 cities. Bianca’s father has to accompany her as her chaperon. By the end of summer of 1984, Bianca competed in the junior US Open in New York city.
- SCENE 10
- Animation: Running back and forth playing tennis. Sound effects: Tennis ball hitting the tennis rackets.
- Bianca’s father moves Bianca and her oldest brother to Florida where he has the resources to provide them year-round coaching to pursue a professional career in tennis.
- SCENE 11
- Animation: Running back and forth playing tennis. Sound effects: tennis ball hitting tennis racket and people applauding.
- Bianca's competition in Florida is harder and Bianca must train longer hours, harder, and every day in addition to playing more tournaments.
- SCENE 12
- Animation: Running, lifting weights and stretching. Sound effects: weights hitting and sound of running on treadmill.
- Bianca’s father explains to Bianca that her mother filed for custody of her and she must return to Virginia quickly and Bianca was separated from her father within 6 months.
- SCENE 13
- Animation: Bianca’s father watching her as a spectator. Bianca makes hand gestures while winning tennis tournaments in local and other state tournaments. Bianca holding up trophies. Sound effects: Tennis playing and cheering.
- Bianca cries her entire plane trip back to Virginia as she realizes she will not get to play tennis in Virginia at the level she was playing in Florida and she thinks she will never see her father again.
- SCENE 14
- Animation: Bianca’s father watching her as a spectator. Bianca and Ashok make winning hand gestures and holding up trophies. Sound effects: Tennis playing and cheering
- Bianca's mother's focus is on education and does not encourage sports.
- SCENE 15
- Animation: Bianca in a car with father traveling to Florida. Soundeffects: Car driving and rain falling.
- Bianca is now a senior in high school and one day she glances at the T.V. and realizes a girl she often won against in Florida is playing on the pro tennis tour. Bianca is sadden as she realizes she have the skills to be a professional tennis player but she did not have the support and resources which diminished her will to pursue a professional tennis career.
- Animation: Running back and forth playing tennis. Sound effects: Tennis balls hitting tennis rackets and kids running.
