- In the first Chapter the author describes JeanLouise, who they call Scout,who is narrrating the story, Jem, Atticus, who is Jem and Scout's father, and Dill who lives with his Aunt, Miss Maudie during the summer. He befriends Scout and Jem. Dill was entrigued by the story of the Radley family and dares Jem to run and touch the Radely house. Thats when all the adventures start for the three kids.
- Chapter One
- It's time for school to begin and Dill leaves Maycomb to return to Meridian. Scout goes to school for the first time. Her new teacher, Miss Caroline who right away doesn't like Scout because her father had already taught her to read and write. In the afternoon another bad event encountered between Miss Caroline and Scout. When its time for lunch and a boy names Walter Cunningham doesn't have a lunch. Miss Caroline offers him a quarter, but he doesn't take it. That's when Scout steps in and try to explain to her teacher that the boy is poor and can't pay him back, but Miss Caroline becomes frustrated with Scout and hits Scout s hands with a ruler.
- Chapter Two
- Scout gets mad at Walter for getting her in trouble BUT Jem invites him over to their house for lunch. When Walter ours molasses all over his meat and vegetables Scout criticizes him. She then gets in trouble by Calpurnia, their black cook. Another day at school and a "cootie" was in a student named Burris Ewell's hair, who is even poorer than the Cunninghams, which terrifies the teacher. He only goes to school on the first day of the year, and he leaves the room with Miss Caroline crying.
