  • That would be amazing!!
  • well, not really.I am confused about The Pre-operational Stage of the Piaget's Theory.
  • Oh, I can help you with that! I am going to spend some time with my 4 year old granddaughter, Jessy, would you like to join us? We can review this stage!
  • Oh hello dear, Of course I remember you. I think you were working on designing a website last year, did you publish the paper?

  • Can I have an overview first?
  • Wow! That was an amazing overview. Can you now describe Make-Believe Play and dual representation for me?
  • Certainly. so in the pre-operational stage (2–7-year-old) noticeable changes in representational, or symbolic, activity such as mentally representing the world and changes in language, blossoms. In this age children think more efficiently by separating thought from action. The limits in our momentary experiences are overcame by thinking in words.
  • Of course!

  • So about Make-Believe Play and how it related to this theory, Piaget believed pretending allows young children to practice and strengthen their representational schemes. My 1.5 year old grandson, Will, for example, grabs the phone and pretends that he is on the phone. However, Will is not flexible and he is unable to use a cup and pretend that he is wearing a hat. When Jessy turned 3, she was able to understand that an object may take on different fictional identity in different games. Later Make-believe becomes less self-centered as children learn that others can be involved in the pretend actions and it can be independent of themselves. Following that, children will combine schemes which will increase complexity of their games.
