The Platt Amendment
As a result of the Spanish-American war (April 21, 1898-December 10, 1898) Spain and the U.S.Asigned a peace treaty in Paris. The peace treaty lead to the colony of Cuba being ceased under U.S.A rule.
For several Years the U.S.A actually helped Cuba.The overall wealth of the country improved as well as education. education. The U.S even aided to eradicating a major problem at the time. This being yellow fever disease. Yellow fever had been a major issue for many centuries in Cuba
However, all was about to change as a constitutional convention met at Havana from November 5, 1900, to February 21, 1901.Known as the Platt Amendment, it permitted the US to control every aspect of Cuba.
Although appearing as a major help to Cuba, the signing of the Platt Amendment permitted to control their Wealth, Government, Revenue, Naval stations, Trade routes, and even to intervene in order to preserve Cuban independence. These rights permitted America to take advantage of Cuba as they robbed their wealth and even made the Cuban President their own muppet (Fulgencio Batista)
With the people being silenced from exposing the truth, Fidel Castro used a band of revolutionaries to create a guerilla campaign throughout the mountains of the island. After many battles against the dictator Batista, he is able to become himself as the president of Cuba
From 2 December 1976 – 24 February 2008 Fidel Castro became the president of Cuba. Additionally, as the first representative of the Communist party throughout Cuba and loved by the people Fidel Castro was able to nationalize all previously U.S.owned businesses, including oil refineries, factories, and casinos. Wich overall restored Cuban wealth, health and independance.
