Francis, originally called John was born in 1181/1182 in Assisi, Italy, Father was a cloth merchant.
Francis went on a pilgrimage to Rome to explore his spirituality. He exchanged his clothes with a beggar. He stopped his partying ways & was in a relationship with Lady Poverty
Francis seperated himself, formally, from his biological father by stripping naked and giving his clothes back. This means he was now aligned with "Our Father In Heaven"
There was three things Francis and his followers must do. 1) give up all their possessions to the poor, 2) take nothing for their journey, and 3) deny themselves and follow Jesus. These rules became basis of the Franciscan order.
1219 Francis travveled to Egypt to convert the Saracen Sultan. He stayed there for a month and came back to Italy with appreciation for prayer 5 times a day
Francis gave himself the stigmato to liken himeself to Christ. He was then able to write his Canticle of the Creatures. Francis died on October 3, 1226. Francis was proclaimed a saint two years later.
