Storyboard Text

  • Gemma Toombs
  • Tyler MacFarlane
  • Theme
  • Gemma is a round and dynamic character. Her character goes from an angry teen with a strained home life to a terrified girl simply hoping to survive.
  • "I hated you for all the emotions in my head, for the confusion … for the way I was suddenly doubting everything"
  • Tyler 'Ty' MacFarlane is also a round and dynamic character. He sees himself as a hero, a guardian angel even. He isn't really a bad guy, he truly does believe he's helping Gemma, which shows his true mental instability.
  • "We're in the middle of the Australian desert. We're not even on the map"
  • The theme of Stolen is to always show forgiveness, even if they may not deserve it. Gemma doesn't despise Ty for kidnapping her, bringing her to the middle of nowhere. Her testifying at his trial was an act of compassion. It was her trying to show that he wasn't actually a monster.
  • "it's harmless […] Pretty much"
  • The mood of Stolen truly is reflective. At its base, this novel is Gemma reflecting on her time in captivity. Reflecting on the causes of her trauma and reflecting, while being brutally honest, on her emotions that have suddenly emerging once arriving back to the real world.
  • One thing that truly gives this novel its plot is the location that Ty takes Gemma to, somewhere no one will EVER find her. There's no chance of rescue, nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.
  • Typically, snakes symbolize that nothing good is to come. It's been this way since Adam and Eve and it doesn't stop here. Ty's property was crawling in them, it was just a matter of time until Gemma was bit.
