Brett Duffey and Cain Carter have been best friends for years. They are roommates and share the same hobbies. On the top of their hobbies list is their passion for hiking and adventure. When these two are not on a hiking expedition, you can find them training and preparing for their next hike. Ever since they were little kids, they had wanted to be put in the record books and become famous, but for what? Maybe hiking?
Cain Carter and Brett Duffey decided to take a short break from their everyday training and read a book, about hiking. In this book the two life long friends discovered that no American had ever climbed to the top of Mount TuTal in France. Cain and Brett look at each other, as they realized that they have finally discovered the thing that will put the names Brett Duffey and Cain Carter into the history books, and make them famous. After three months of training for this adventure, they packed their backpacks and headed to France.
Crossing the Threshold
Once in France, the pair spent no time in getting to the trail head. They were both eager to begin the strenuous 8 mile hike to the summit of Mt. TuTal. Two miles into the hike, the two encountered their first obstacle, a fork in the trail. The hike up until this point had been more strenuous than they had anticipated on, and now this unforeseen fork in the trail, left them having second thoughts about this adventure.
After experiencing the fork in the path Brett and Cain were about to quit. Just then a Frenchman, said to have completed this hike once before, comes up from behind them. The Frenchman, with his broken English asks, "Bonjour, you boys looking for the path up?" "Yes Sir we are!" replied Brett
The Frenchman offers to help Brett and Cain and they accept. Hiking with an experienced hiker of this trail, the boys once again feel excited and optimistic. The three began trekking to the summit together. Brett and Cain are now officially on their way to summit Mt TuTal and set a record.
Along the way, the group of three faced some tests, enemies and allies. Most tests were minor, like a few more forks in the road and some areas of extremely rough terrain. One major test was having to save Cain from an attack by a cougar. The two were able to scare the cougar away by creating loud noises. They also encountered a few enemies on their hike. These enemies were a few different groups of people who were bashing them for being American and attempting to hike this mountain and many encouraged them to just "give up." Fortunately, not all who they met were enemies. After Cain's attack, two passer-bys, another hiker and a forest ranger encountered them and were able to aid Brett and the Frenchman administer first aid care to Cain.
