- Northern New Mexico was once a resource rich land.
- The Hispano culture settled the region. They are a mixed culture of native people of the region and Spanish conquistadors.
- The culture built a relationship with the land over the centuries. They depended on it for sustenance and economic survival.
- The Hispanos have historically been a minority in the region. As such they have endured a long history of marginalization.
- We are here to civilize those brown people, they are savages
- You will learn our religion and our culture!!
- The centuries pass and the Hispano culture merges and becomes a mixture of cultures.
- I am headed out to work the fields. Work is hard but at least I can take care of my family.
- Communities grew and families were raised.
- Technology developed and industry moved into the area. A new layer of disenfranchisement developed for the Hispano people.
- I hate working here. I wish I could still live off of the land like my ancestors.
- I am so sad, all I can think about is how good my life was in the past. There is so much sadness in my life now.
- Poveryt and heroin use is endemic in the area.
- Dios Mio!! I long for a time when I could live from the land.
- I wish things could be like they used to be
- Those times are only memories.
- Nuestra cultura es una memoria.
- I just want to forget.
