Storyboard Text

  • The boy, which goes unnamed in the book, is very scared and weak. You can tell he is scared because he asked The man this, "are we going to die?" We can also tell when they break into a plantation house, The boy is scared and doesn’t want to go in. But when they run from the strangers the book states that the boy is exhausted and weak feeding to the idea that he is weak in the beginning. Also letting the man do all the work such as scavenging for food, is another sign of weakness.
  • The bunker is a very important event on page 137 because it shows how the boy has evolved a bit of To begin, they have gone through so many places just to find food and they never had luck. But this time they do. Now this is important because it illustrates how the boy never gives up hope on finding food. He is now always wishing for the best and is not scared anymore to journey through the places for food. Also, he has a better idea of what is happening so he must not be scared, "the boy knows they cant stay there for long."
  • An event that drastically changed the boys attitude and how to be in this world now is when the man died. The man had taught him many things such as how to be brave and find food, "the boy takes the revolver with him and goes out to find food." Something else that assures the boy changed is when his dad died, the boy stayed with his father for three days and then sets out on the road we can infer that if it was the same boy from the beginning, he would have just stayed at the same spot because of fear. Not only is he brave to make his own decisions such as trusting the man with the shotgun that he finds along the way, but he has also learned from his father, "The boy asks if the man is carrying the fire" and "The boy asks if the man with the shotgun and his group eats people." Which were major concerns he learned to not be scared and ask about them.
