  • Kicked off on August 26, 1776, over 250 soldiers were killed in Maryland. Bad for Americans because we lost and we were out numbered. Americans were already there, and all the sudden ships sailed into New York, and British soldiers started shouts demands. Our 200 soldiers lost to 15,000 British troops and soldiers. 20% of Washington's army was killed. This Battle is also known as he Battle of Brooklyn. British then took over New York.

  • December 25 1776, Washington decided to cross the Delaware River. He was trying to arrive in Trenton, by 5:00am. Only 2,400 of Washington's troops made it across the river. Many died because of the coldness, and got frostbite. It wasn't much of a successful battle for the patriots, but it taught them lessons. Demonstrated the Continental Army could win. Battle was against a Hessian (German) garrison. Big morale booster for Washington's troops.

  • January 2-3, 1777, The Continental Army broke through he British line. After George Washington joined, The Continental Army decided to try harder than ever and soon after Washington, yelled the sign "Fire." Americans won, and we outdid them. Americans had a better plan and were finally able to take down the British. Washington's general was killed, that is when George Washington stepped in.
  • Summary
  • July/August 1777, Got tired, but continued to press on, September 3, they kept going. They started off traveling the river at 5am, by noon they crossed where Washington was, fire was yelled, and battle started. Washington was determined to make sure that battle didn't get any worse. The Brandywine battle cost 1,000 soldiers dead or injured. The British didn't go hard on them, British one, but Philadelphia was then taken from Americans. One of the largest and longest conflicts of the war. Ended the Americans winning streak.
  • Fighting lasted several hours. British captured Philadelphia on September 26, 1777. Washington wasn't there, he was busy in Brandywine. Major turning point in the American Revolution. Americans won, and ended up getting hep from the French.
  • Even though both fought hard and well British left with Philadelphia Pennsylvania, and claimed it with government. British out of all 5 battles then scored or won more than Americans. British also had healthier, stronger training/trainers. profession trainers, were taught well, and were often well served. Americans were not so any of that.
