- Charlie shot Van horn because he thought he was a monster, he was afraid. Pete Van horn was killed because everyone was afraid he was a monster. Everyone was afraid which lead them to kill someone, fear lead to death.
- Mankind is it's own worst enemy
- Charlie said Tommy was the alien in fear of being accused himself. He accused someone who he knew was not a alien just to get him out of trouble. Fear lead to injustice in Maple street which is the biggest monster of all.

- At end chaos brakes out because everyone is afraid of the aliens, violence was chosen because everyone was afraid. Everyone on Maple street was afraid which lead to chaos and people were screaming who they thought was the alien. In the end no one was the alien which they would have realized if they weren't so chaotic.

- After Goodmans car turns on the group accuses him even though it was nothing and mankind turned on each other because of something so stupid and could be explained. Mankind escalated the situation to an extreme extent, an unnecessary extent. Everyone turned on each other with the slightest problem and even though they have know Goodman for a long time.
- Everyone is quick to accuses Steve about his radio making them all turn on each other even though it is just a radio. Everyone turns on each other even though it was quickly explained that it was nothing. Steve's wife explains that she gave it to him for as a gift and is nothing Steve likes to work on it down in the basement. But even after explanations everyone was questioning Steve.
- At the very end the aliens talk about how without power for an hour or so mankind turns on each other and how this is the same with every other city not just Maple street. This shows us that it was indeed aliens but no one from Maple street. It also adds to the theme that mankind is it's own worst enemy because they talk about how it is the same everywhere.
